There is nothing better than going to watch baseball, but if those spoiled crybabies strike it'll be hard for the leagues to ever recover. For a hilarious run down of what's wrong with the sport of baseball, see John Donovan's article or even funnier, the follow up list of things wrong with baseball from the fans. One fan writes: "Corporate sponsorship of stadium names - I know this isn't just baseball, but really, how long do we have to wait until we're watching the Yanks and Red Sox at Tampax Park?"

Is it a big surprise the rest of the world hates the US? A group of people in NY are suing fast food companies for making them fat. Don't get me wrong, we know there are lots of things wrong with these companies and the industry in general, but come on! These folks are claiming that they always thought fast food was good for you. Is it ignorance or avoidance?

More than 800 million people in the world go hungry. But here we have some Americans who have been overfeeding themselves and now they want compensation for it? Sheesh.

How about the famine in Africa? Does that taper the craving for a Big Mac?
Oh wow, I'm a slacker. It's been a busy summer with the grad school finishing and the job interviews starting. So I've been ignoring my blog. In other blog news, Salon is jumping on the bandwagon introducing it's own blog services. But here is the catch - they are charging $39.95 a year. Hey people - it's free!

I'm reading the most excellent book No Logo by Naomi Klein. It's a well researched and highly detailed report of the brand evolution in the US and Canada and how corporate sponsorships impact everything from globalism to privacy. Since starting the book, I've been looking at the world in a slightly different way.

Some interesting news from today:

Seems as though there is a rash of women killing their husbands in Iran.

American teenagers choose not to work over the summer (kids these days, I tell ya).

It's been over a decade, but I'm still not as much as a vegetarian as some people.

Uh-oh, cell phone spam, like hotmail wasn't bad enough.

Last week F and I went on a camping trip to the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area. I mean it's summer, it's nice and hot, people are taking off all the time. So, we set out early on a Thursday and planned to be back Saturday afternoon (I had a baby shower to attend). We get to the ranger station in Leavenworth early in the afternoon. I love talking to rangers. I think in my next life I'll come back as one. They are like the AAA of nature, but way friendlier - oh yeah and free. We decided to camp at Ida Creek, which was about 14 miles up Icicle Creek Road next to the roaring Wenatchee river (next time we're rafting). We went on a couple hikes, one up to Eight Mile Lake. The entire trip was serene, relaxing, and quite - almost perfect, except for the rain. It started raining the afternoon we arrived and finally stopped Saturday morning as it was time to leave. Oh well - still beat being at home.
Have you heard about the ad campaign urging the British not to switch over to the euro. What brainiac came up with that one?
