So the weekend consisted of an amazing camping trip. One of the motivations was to prep for Alaska, you know try out all the gear, practice packing, etc. Although, it would appear that it is hard not to be a pack rat when camping. I mean between the guitar, wet suits, a myriad of outfit changes, oh and food and wine, there was no packing light about it. Well, i guess there are still a couple more weeks before it's time to go. Still time to plan/rehearse, and simplify!
So, we camped up at Silver Fir. Saturday was spent frolicking at the Mt Baker Ski Area, doing a scramble up the side of a hill. Trying to prepare for the trail-less Denali. Then that afternoon was awash in the chilly Nooksack. It was a great combo of freezing snow, sunburned hiking, and bruisy river wading.
Then Sunday it was a pretty challenging jaunt up
Goat Mountain. It was about 5 or 6 miles roundtrip, but decent elevation gain of 3000 ft. Switchback upon switchback. Needless to say, I'm a tad sore today. The hike was followed by more river wading in an attempt to decrease the core temp, which was mighty effective.
Then we finally pulled ourselves away from the idyllic camping life to head back to the city and back to life. Last night I dreamed about hiking, thought I was in Denali. It's going to be amazing. Difficult, but amazing.
