Duquesne friends amok

After Ed Caroll gets blurbed, Jessica Caum gets her moment of fame in the sun. As an add for a look like a celebrity competition. Is this just the start of an illustrious career in "internet modeling"? Who knows for sure. But while Jes is not splashing her nearly famous mug on PhillyCollegeStudents.com, she's working the room at Joe Beckham's new bar in Philly: Club 27.

How to sell a heavy desk

So I've been trying to sell that desk and time is running out. The first post I made before going out of town can be seen on Craig's list here. I only got two responses. One person wanted to buy it and then totally flaked out.

So, I reposted with a totally different description. Maybe I'll all extra smart assy, but desperate times call for desperate measures. I got 12 responses, including one that read:

I have no need or space for the desk, but thanks so much for writing such a great ad! Whoever gets your desk will be inheriting good karma, I'm sure!

Dirty Blurber

Fancy friends get quoted in reputable online rag. Ed Carroll for CNN money.

"I think that parents and students would rather do too much rather than too little," Carroll concluded.

Tests, sounds, and views

It's been a long week. I've been running a study and and watching people try to use a website and struggle and toil. I'm not surprised about the results, but I'm constantly surprised to see how users will do 30 tasks in a study, have a hard time, not find what they need then at the end state, oh yeah, it was really easy. I just wish they would demand more usable products. It's like watching someone in a bad relationship. "Well, the experience was grueling, it took forever, I couldn't find what I need, but I guess it was easy. I mean at least it's online. I just need to really spend a lot of time to figure it out, it's obviously some lack in me."

Anyway, tonight will be a nice break from all this work and thinking by endulging in the whistler extrodinaire Jolie Holland at the schmancy Triple Door.

And next week is Bob Dylan, woopee. One of my fave new coworkers showed me this cool site. It let's you see what your view will be like from your seat. Here's the one for the Paramount.

Gaying up the 'kane

Looks like one way to fight the social conservative, religiousity is to establish gay culture in cities such as our beloved Inland Northwest's Spokane.

Salon has an article about members of the gay community in Spokane trying to establish a gay business district, like the Castro in SF or Capitol Hill here in Seattle.

"So far city officials have maintained silence on the idea, which has come entirely from the private sector and does not involve any money from local authorities. But Spokane's gay groups are not backing down. "We need to be visible. It gives validation to who we are," said Reguindin. They are already deep in talks with several developers and have chosen their target area in the city. But they have not revealed its location, fearing opposition groups will buy property there to drive up prices and sink the project."

Go Spokane, we'll come over and shop!
