Another Wedding Question

Well, ya'll were really helpful on the Wedding Wine Advice so I'm back asking for more advice.

Since we getting married way out on the Olympic Peninsula, it's sort of more like a destination wedding since folks we be traveling quite a ways to get here (including a gaggle of my British relatives and East Coast family and friends). So one of the things that I thought might be nice is to have welcome gift bags, something that would be waiting in folks rooms when they check in.

So I'm looking for advice about what should go in said gift bags. I've got a short list, but am looking for more advice.

Here's what I'm thinking so far:
1. Bottled water
2. Mints (always helpful for travelers), I'm leaning towards Penguins cause they are local and caffeinated :)
3. Some sort of snack, maybe granola bars or trail mix to stick with our summer campy feel
4. A list of events for the weekend and suggested other things to do and local amenities

Other things, what about cards or something else? There's no TVs or phones so it might be nice to include a little something like that.

Of course, we're on a budget - so no mini bottles of Dom Perignon (sorry!)

Ideas?

This is a sweet idea, Em. Cards is definitely good - encourages interaction with the rest of the campers, too. How about maps of the area (maybe you had that in mind already with the list of things to do)? Eco-friendly bug repellent?

yes, a map of the area with a list of close by trails would be good. my mom also suggested bug repellent too - so i think that would be a good idea.

i wish i could squeeze a kayak into each gift bag too - that'd be fun.

What about disposable cameras? You see them on tables at receptions a lot, but it would be fun if people took pictures all weekend of whatever they are doing-- hikes, kayaking, visiting hurricane ridge, etc.

since there are firepits, maybe little s'more-making kits? water bottles for to take on walks?

this will probably be hard to pick out, but i'm wondering if a book would be good. then people would have something to read since there's no tv? again probably hard to pick something but i bet you could find something fun...

oh, building on your mom's idea-- there must be some travel-type magazines for the olympic penn. I know there is one that comes out each year for whidbey, it describes attractions and events, has photos, suggests a driving tour, etc. Those are always fun to read. You might also be able to find a book about the history of the area, Amazon lists a ton but they are expensive.

I like the little books that help you identify plants and flowers for the area. I think those are $3.95

oh, and you should definitely choose "Who Pooped in the Park?" for your special guests!

Good suggestions all - I wish I would have just put every wedding decision up for discussion on the blog - so much easier!
