The fight continues

Over at the Slog there is a fight brewing over what to call our neighborhood - acknowledging the fact that it's in the Central District there is a need to come up with a name for it.

My favs so far:
- Burner Triangle
- SoMa (which means South of Madison or the fictional happy pill from Brave New World or the not so fictional muscle relaxer - take your pick).

Does your sub-neighborhood have a name?

Who is top bunny?

This article on Wiki How is not only practical, it's adorable. From How to Train a Rabbit:

Make sure your rabbit knows who’s in charge. Chances are your rabbit will want to rule the house. While you can’t expect the kind of submission you can get from a dog, you must have the respect of your rabbit—she needs to know who’s “top bunny.” The most common way rabbits try to assert dominance is inappropriate nipping: biting you to try to herd you or get you to leave your sitting place. If this occurs, let out a short, loud, high-pitched squeal and either put your rabbit down on the floor (if she has jumped up where you’re sitting) or pick her up and move her out of the way from you (if she is on the floor already). Do this firmly, but gently. You don’t want to hurt your rabbit or make her fear you; you simply want to assert that you are in charge. If she continues the behavior, put her in her crate for a “time-out.”

Why is it that this makes me want to get a bunny? It is becuase the idea of a bunny time out is very cute?

How I'm spending my Sunday

Sunday brings varied things!

Today I am:
- Attending this monstrosity, luckily with a team of smart, witty and hilarious friends.
- Trying to sell this dear old friend of a car which thanks to recent detailing is like a shiny new penny
- Reading this book for my feminist theory class.

Congratulations - it's twins!

If only I had a working camera, I could have captured the fascinating event that occurred during the making of breakfast. We were having a kind of exorbitant breakfast, since the pre-wedding fitness program/competition will start tomorrow. I had planned to make a scramble with shallots, red peppers, tomatoes and extra sharp cheddar, plus hash browns, plus toast. Hey. It's New Years right, time to splurge. Anyway, as I was cracking the eggs for the scramble I was sort of zoning out, watching football and I look down to see 3 yolks from 2 shells. Weird, huh. Well I continued to crack eggs and each of the next 3 all had double fully formed yolks. Kind of nauseating to be honest. But in all my years of cooking eggs, I've never seen that once, never mind three times in a row. I'm glad we were doing scrambled instead of over-easy. Also these aren't the factory produced eggs, they were organic/cage free kind.

Has anyone else ever seen this?

Happy New Year

Happy New Year all. It's been an amazing vacation a time to really recharge the batteries, relax and have fun. We spent quality time with J's family and went skiing in Mt. Bachelor last week and I know that I could live in Bend in a heartbeat. I forgot how much fun skiing is and the welcome feeling of being sore and exhausted after spending the day swooshing down the slopes. We're off to Whistler next month and I can't wait for that. Hopefully we'll be able to fit another week of skiing before then too.

Last night was a pretty mellow time, hung out with Jenn and Colby and rocked in the New Year with a late night loud jam. Jenn's violin playing adds an extra dimension to the typical guitar set. I was on acoustic, J was on the keyboard and Colby rocked the electric. It was super fun.

Looking foward to a productive and fun new year. In the next year, I'm planning on:
  • taking and passing my general exams
  • writing my dissertation proposal
  • traveling to some fun conferences (CHI, UPA, and HCI International to name a few)
  • moving to Olympia, we've started house hunting and I can't wait to live down there!
  • working on fun and interesting projects with my clients
  • and finally, and of course, most importantly, getting married to my favorite person in the world.
I think 2007 will be quite the eventful year and life just keeps getting better.
